42 Days Later . . .

My car is back! 42 days of repair work totaling just over ten-thousand dollars and twelve hundred dollars in rental fees. I have my car again. But I’m afraid the love affair is over. It’s still a totally cool car and I love the G-35, just not this one anymore.

I looked it over real good when I picked it up, but it’s not the same. I can’t help looking at it and picturing all of that bent metal and crushed plastic . . . the dual exhausts scraping the ground. The bumper hanging off. The trunk crushed in. And I also know what was done to fix it. An entire new rear and trunk pan. New quarter panels and a totally new exhaust system. Windows removed, metal and paint blended to hide the scars. Frame extenders welded in place because the original frame was cut apart to remove the crushed sections.

No. I can’t love you anymore. I need you to be perfect and not scarred like me. I wanted an amazingly beautiful car, not a mirror.

Oof. Apt analogy. My car has some dents and dings, some scratching and scarring, and every once in a while the electrical system goes haywire, but it usually gets the jobs done. Scary, I'd never analogized myself with my car before.

Well, I absolutely loved my car because it was the first thing I've ever owned that was brand new and expensive and perfect. There was a bit of an ego thing going there too. But now when I look at it, it's just like everything else in my life - in need of repair.

I can relate to not likeing the car after getting it back.I trashed a Plymouth Duster in 1976.I had junped an 18 incurd on a bridge crusning the right front part of the car.the wheel was bent completely under the chasis, the headlight was distroyed.I even too apicture of it befor it was towed of by the insurance company to a scrap yard. They said that it would be cheeper to replace the car that fix it.It was a shame too it only had 250 miles on it when I distroyed it.briveing drunk does things like that.I'm sorry that I was that stupid back than.Man did I tell it that it deserved better that I treated it,and that hopefully what ever was salvaged from it would be treated better that I treated it.

I can relate here too.....my lovely car was pranged twice (once me, I'm a shit driver, once my other half, who claims he isn't) in one week and though it's back and pristeen, I feel slightly altered towards it.
